Home Sleep Testing

Home Sleep Testing is a way for you to be evaluated for Obstructive Sleep Apnea from the comfort of home, in your own bed. Simple sensors and a test recording device that you wear for bed reveal if there are pauses in breathing during sleep. For many people a home sleep test may be nearly as effective at detecting Obstructive Sleep Apnea as an overnight sleep study at a sleep lab.

Preparations for a home sleep test are straightforward; Dr. Carter will show you how to use the testing system. Shortly before your normal bedtime, complete the set up of the equipment. Then get in bed and go to sleep as you would normally. The next day, return the testing system to our office.

The results from the home sleep test will determine if signs of sleep apnea are present — including repeated reductions in airflow despite continued breathing effort.  Dr. Carter will thoroughly review the results of the test with you.

Same-day consultations and home sleep testing setups are available. Call us today at (937) 705-6747; insurance requirements may apply.

What are Home Sleep Testing benefits?
•  Comfort — There’s nothing like the comfort of your own bed!
•  Convenience — No need to drive across town, miss work or coordinate an overnight study in a sleep lab with your busy schedule.
•  Home sleep testing can be especially advantageous to the home-bound, elderly, or those with chronic illness, who require specialized care such as a nurse or family member
•  Cost — Many patients are searching for a more cost-effective solution. The cost of a Home Sleep Test is often significantly less than a more traditional procedure would cost at a sleep laboratory or clinic.
